Can four-poster beds be described as a design classic? At Grosvenor Beds we think so, which is why we stock a range of grand, opulent four poster beds to suit all budgets.

Take a tour of any stately home and you’ll find a four-poster bed, they’ve been around for centuries ever since they were first introduced, probably from Austria in the 15th Century.  In those days you had to be among the richest members of society to afford them and designs grew more and more extravagant as four poster beds became a statement of wealth and power. Some of these beds can still be seen today. Most notably the famous Great Bed of Ware can be found on display at the V&A

This was particularly true in Tudor times. Tudor four poster beds dominated the bed chambers of royalty and rich aristocrats. The Tudor bedroom was the focus of entertainment for the lady of the house and was often the area of the house where romance and chivalrous courtship would take place. During this period, four poster beds were carved from solid oak and would often feature grotesque carvings of mythical creatures like griffins and other monsters.

Since then, various other styles have been introduced including Queen Anne four poster beds, Venetian four poster beds and Moulin Noir style four poster beds to name but a few. All of these are available from Grosvenor Beds at prices ranging from £675.00 for a Mahogany Queen Anne Four Poster Bed to £4,000 for a solid oak carved four poster bed.

While four poster beds are not for every room type, this design classic of Medieval times will feel just as at home as part of a hotel honeymoon suite or as a spectacular feature in larger bedrooms where they will definitely impress your visitors.
